CFR Director & Board Member Advocate for National Parent Representation
CFR Executive Director Susan Jacobs and Board Member Martin Guggenheim have written an article, A New National Movement in Parent Representation, in the current issue of Clearinghouse Review of the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, which marks the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Gideon v. Wainwright decision.
The article introduces the national movement for quality parent representation and discusses the success of CFR’s model. Unfortunately, most poor families do not receive such services. Each year, thousands of parents in the U.S. facing child welfare investigations must walk into Family Court without legal counsel–increasing the likelihood that their children may be removed and face long stays in foster care.
